Dr. Elisa Fiorentino

Dr. Elisa Fiorentino grew up in Transcona and graduated from College Pierre Elliott Trudeau. She graduated with Honours from the University of Waterloo in 1999. She was the recipient of the E.J. Chisholm Memorial Scholarship for academic and clinical proficiency in Pediatric Optometry. As part of her training, she completed an internship in ocular therapeutics at the Omni Eye Centre in Baltimore, Maryland. She returned to Transcona upon her graduation to work at Transcona Optical. She has served as the co-chair of the Continuing Education committee for the Manitoba Association of Optometrists and on the board of directors for the Manitoba Division of the CNIB. For several years Dr. Elisa Fiorentino also served as the secretary to the Board of Directors for Villa Cabrini Inc. She is of Italian background and she also speaks French.
Dr. Alissa Boroditsky

Dr. Alissa Boroditsky joined the Transcona Optical team in 2005 after graduating with Honors from the University of Waterloo. A highlight from her years of schooling was an externship at the Karolinska Eye Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. This externship along with her missionary trip to Villahermosa, Mexico, provided her with more experience and knowledge about ocular diseases.
Dr. Boroditsky is originally from Winnipeg and graduated from a French immersion high school and the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science degree. She is a mother to three children. Dr. Boroditsky enjoys seeing patients in both English and French and welcomes patients of all ages. She appreciates taking the extra time and care with patients and appreciates the relationships that have evolved over the years. During her years of practice, she has served as the Continuing Education Chair for the Manitoba Association of Optometrists and as an Optometric delegate to the CNIB.
Dr. Steven Malo

Dr. Steven Malo graduated with Honors in 2006 from the University of Waterloo’s School of Optometry. During his final year at university, he interned at a leading eye disease referral center in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Malo is originally from the small town of Simcoe, Ontario. He decided to move to his wife’s hometown of Winnipeg where he began practicing in Portage la Prarie before joining Transcona Optical in 2009. Dr. Malo is currently a member of the complaints committee for the Manitoba Association of Optometrists. Dr. Malo enjoys raising his young family and playing hockey and golf in his spare time.
Dr. Karen Blackie

Dr. Karen Blackie graduated with Honors from the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo in 2011. Prior to that she completed a BSc and MSc in Molecular Biology. She chose to pursue a career in Optometry because of a love for teaching & caring for people. In August 2011, Dr. Karen Blackie joined Transcona Optical’s team of esteemed optometrists. She has spent time in Jamaica providing charity eye care to people who cannot otherwise afford proper eye care. She has worked in a Veteran’s hospital in Oklahoma for 4 months where she focused on the treatment and diagnosis of eye diseases. Dr. Blackie prides herself in providing a fun & relaxing environment, especially for young nervous patients. She is there to answer any questions you may have and offer detailed explanations. Dr. Blackie is the proud mom of two young daughters. In her spare moments, she enjoys reading & loves to cook. Dr. Karen Blackie is passionate & kind and loves what she does. She looks forward to caring for you and your family’s eye care needs.
Dr. Blake Chartier

Dr. Chartier graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2017 on the Dean’s Honour List. He was also the recipient of the Karen Tompa Nowy Memorial Award for avocation of treatment and excellence in patient care. Prior to optometry school, Dr. Chartier completed his undergraduate Honours Science degree at the University of Waterloo on a scholarship with the Men’s Varsity Hockey Team. During his final year of optometric studies, Dr. Chartier completed several clinical externships in both Canada and the United States. Included in those studies is time at the John D Dingell VA Hospital in Detroit, Michigan where he received extensive exposure to the diagnosis and management of various ocular diseases. He also spent time at our clinic as an intern providing primary care. Away from the office, Dr. Chartier enjoys playing hockey, and golf and spending time at the lake.

Dr. Alexa Prieur graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry. She will provide all types of eyecare with particular interests in dry eyes and ocular disease. Dr. Prieur is a proud Franco-Manitoban and is happy to be back in her hometown to offer eye exams in both English and French.
